WSBK: Alvaro Bautista wins both races in ThailandMarch 19, 2019
The second stage of the “Superbike” Pirelli Thai Round was marked not only by the victory of the Spaniard on the Ducati Panigale V4 R, but also by the red flags because of the accident, which fell Kamie and Varokorn.
During the first race, the pilot Aruba.it Racing Ducati allowed the current WSBK champion, Jonathan Ray, to bypass himself, and later made a mistake, pushing him one more position – now he could see Alex Lowes’ back. But the experienced Bautista did not panic, continuing to move confidently toward his intended goal.
At the beginning of the fourth round, he walked around Lowes, after which in the contact fight he overtook Ray and came to the finish line first with an eight-second gap.
In the second race on the Buriram highway, the racer also competed with Ray, exchanging the overtakings, until red flags appeared four circles before the finish: Briton Leon Kamye collided with fallen Thai Titipong Varokorn. The second required the help of physicians, and as it turned out, he received a fracture of the hand and a sprain of the knee ligaments.
They decided to stop the race, and fix the results on the current positions of the participants. Thus the Spaniard won both races of the Pirelli Thai Round. The next stage will be held in Spain on April 5-7.
