World RX has lost the team Petter SolbergDecember 15, 2018
The press service of PSRX Volkswagen Sweden announced the day before that after five seasons of being present in the world rallycross championship, they decided not to take part in the next one.
The PSRX Volkswagen Sweden team has been in the rally since the founding of the World RX Championship in 2014 and won four times with Solberg and Christophersson. More recently, the Swedes planned to continue the fight for the title, but yesterday, December 14, it became known that the team will not appear in the new season.
The reason for this is the reduced number of participants in the competition, as told by the head of PSRX Volkswagen Sweden. Four teams have already left the championship before the Swedes: Peugeot, Olsbergs MSE and EKS.
“The last two years the competition has been strong, and the struggle on the track has been hot, but since the factory and semi-factory teams left, interest in the WRX has declined, everything has changed,” says Sven Smits, director of Volkswagen Motorspor.
“This decision was not easy. Due to the unpredictable situation, we decided not to take part in the season 2019, however, we will continue to observe the electrification of the rally-cross, since we have long been interested in this. ”
Meanwhile, the first Porshe pilot has been announced to participate in Formula E of the 2019/20 season.
