Winnebago Ekko 2021 or off-road caravan based on Ford TransitNovember 19, 2020
Winnebago has presented a completely new “mobile home” called Ekko. The new 2021 model year, which according to its creators has everything you need for automotive tourism, is based on the latest version of the Ford Transit van.
The all-new Winnebago Ekko camper, available in two variants, is based on the updated Ford Transit van with four-wheel drive and a host of autonomous features. From the outside, it looks like a standard mobile home made for some terrestrial adventure. But go into the bathroom and you’ll see the camper’s most elegant trick – a fake wall that turns to hide shower equipment.
The compact Ekko bathroom has everything you need for car tourism, including a toilet, sink and shower. However, Winnebago adds a bit of sophistication to day-to-day comfort by placing the sink and mirror on a revolving wall that folds down to reveal shower equipment, and the vanity unit slides over the cassette toilet. The tankless instant hot shower water heater with an absolutely huge 859 liters of fresh water makes the shower experience even more exciting.
Winnebago has also provided Ekko with some serious stand-alone capabilities by installing a 2,800 W generator, a dedicated second alternator and three solar panels producing up to 455 W of power.
The camper also has plenty of storage space, with a full-size, insulated storage compartment at the rear that can hold several bicycles, skis and other large gear. Winnebago also includes a pull-out summer kitchen with fridge / freezer combo, two-burner hob, and fold-out sink / cutting board. The camper can accommodate up to four people – there is an additional retractable tent on the roof.
The 2021 Winnebago Ekko is based on the new all-wheel drive Ford Transit, which is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine producing 310 hp. and a 10-speed automatic transmission. It also features new Transit safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and more. Customers also get Apple CarPlay support, which is built into the Ford Sync 3 infotainment system. The new product costs a minimum of $ 163,662.
