Williams: what’s wrong with the new F-1 car?February 21, 2019
The car was able to be sent to the track only in the second half of the third test day, George Russell was driving it. Claire Williams said that they still have not received the necessary parts.
The situation in the British team was really complicated: the FW42 was not fully presented at the presentation, we had to radically change the schedule of work, we missed two and a half days of winter tests, there are still no spare parts needed for aerodynamics, technical director Paddy Lowe is under threat of dismissal. And you can only imagine how they have to get out in order to at least do something for the remaining test day.
On Wednesday, February 20, George Russell, making his Formula 1 debut this year, entered the track at the wheel of a new car only half an hour after the end of the lunch break. He managed to drive only one lap, and then he returned to the pits. That is, we can assume that “Williams” lost almost a third of the test time.
“To say that the last days were terrible – to say nothing. Creating the FW42 was really difficult for us. There is a strange atmosphere in our team, we are disappointed. The team knows the main reasons for the delay, but it won’t be publicly searched in dirty laundry,” Claire Williams, deputy head of Williams, yesterday at a meeting with reporters.
