Williams FW14B Mansell put up for auctionFebruary 7, 2019
The historic Williams FW14B car, on which Nigel Mansell performed in 1992 and scored five wins on the way to the championship title, will be put up for auction next summer.
On the days of the traditional Goodwood Festival of Speed, they will be organized by the Bonhams auction house, and the unique lot will surely attract much attention. The Williams team used this chassis with serial number 08 on 13 of the 16 stages of that season, and at seven Grand Prix on it Mansell performed. Then Riccardo Patrese, his then partner, got behind the wheel of this car.
Williams FW14B with its active suspension was the best car of its generation and is rightfully considered one of the best developments in the history of Formula 1. It was created by the then young Adrian Newy, who now gained fame as one of the most successful designers of racing cars of all time.
According to the organizers of the auction, the car is in excellent condition, previously it belonged to the Williams team, after which it passed to a private collector. She is on the run, which was tested recently; Renault V10 engine and active suspension system – everything works fine.
The initial price has not yet been called, but we can assume that it will be quite high, as always happens with the Formula 1 championship cars.
