Will the VW T-Rug crossover compete with the Land Rover Defender?December 27, 2018
It is known that for their upcoming crossover, the guys from Volkswagen have prepared electric motors. Good old gasoline and diesel counterparts for the T-Rug is not provided.
It is known that the German brand Volkswagen is preparing a number of electric vehicles that will be built on the new MEB platform. The first of these will be a compact I.D. hatchback. Our foreign colleagues from the publication Auto Bild claim that the new electric modular architecture will serve as the basis for the crossover, which will be introduced in 2022. It is assumed that the new model, which will be called the T-Rug, will be offered in both 3-and 5-door bodywork.
But the most interesting thing is that the German novelty intends to seriously compete with the new generation of the legendary British SUV Land Rover Defender.
At the moment, the details of the new crossover is virtually unknown. Thanks to our insiders, we know that the 3-door version of the model will have a length of approximately 4.5 meters, while the 5-door version will receive an increased wheelbase, so its length will be about 4.85 meters.
The guys from the publication Auto Bild say that the crossover with zero emissions has not yet been approved by the brand for mass production, so it is too early to build any guesses. According to reports, if the car still gets the green light, it can get the body of their heavy-duty plastic, which you can clean with a high-pressure cleaner.
Well, it sounds very interesting and unusual – I am intrigued. It only remains for us to wait for the presentation of the novelty, if only it happens.
