Will Kalle Rovanper replace Jari-Matti Latvala at Toyota?October 9, 2019
The head of the Toyota factory rally team, Tommy Myakkinen, hinted at inviting the promising Calle Rovanpera in 2020.
“I believe that he is able to fight for the podiums and consistently bring points to the team in the championship,” Myakkinen answered the Delfi Sport question about Rovanper’s readiness to move to the WRC main class.
Last weekend, the 19-year-old Finn won the championship title in the WRC2 Pro class ahead of schedule. But whose place can a talented young racer take? Toyota has no contract with any of the three pilots for the season.
“Nothing has been signed yet. But I hope that in the very near future we will have something to announce, ”said Toyota Gazoo Racing head of negotiations with team leader Ott Tyanak.
Thus, Rovanper can take the place of Chris Mika or Jari-Matti Latvala, rumors about the replacement of which have been going on for several years.
“Recently, my opinion about Chris Mick has changed for the better,” said Myakkinen. “He stopped being nervous, stopped thinking only about victories in the rally and the championship and focused on scoring for the team.”
Two stages before the end of the 2019 season, Latvala is the worst of Toyota riders in the individual competition, where it takes seventh place.
