Who will win the tug of war – Land Cruiser, Land Rover, VW Touareg or Audi Q7?April 12, 2020
YouTube channel carwow in an unusual way experienced the towing capabilities of off-road vehicles with turbo diesel engines. Showmen were compared in the tug of war Land Rover Discovery, Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7 and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. All cars were shod in road tires, and the competition was held on the grass.
The yardstick for the competition was the Land Rover Discovery with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 rated at 254 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. The British SUV is the heaviest of the rivals, weighs 2,230 kilograms, is capable of towing up to 3,500 kilograms and costs 71.2 thousand pounds.
Under the hood of the Volkswagen Touareg 286-horsepower turbodiesel 3.0 V6 with the same torque of 600 Nm, the German car weighs 2070 kilograms and is capable of transporting a trailer weighing 3.5 tons. The price of the version with the R-Line package in the UK is 73.4 thousand pounds.
The updated Audi Q7 version 50 TDI shares the aggregate base with Touareg. The engine, transmission and towing capabilities are identical, and the curb weight is 2165 kilograms. The crossover from Ingolstadt is the most expensive: for the version with the S-Line package you need to pay 84.75 thousand pounds.
Finally, the Land Cruiser Prado is the most affordable and low-power among SUVs, but the Japanese car has “honest” differential locks. Under the hood, an in-line four-cylinder 186-horsepower 2.8-liter turbodiesel 2.8, peak torque – 450 Nm. The mass of Land Cruiser Prado – 2125 kilograms, and the price – 55.35 thousand pounds
