The Drag Times team decided to test the updated Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 – for this they “forced” it to fight with the Ford GT supercar.

The first copies of the updated Ford Mustang in the “charged” version of the Shelby GT500 are already beginning to appear at dealers of the American brand and fall into the hands of their impatient owners. To fully know what the new generation of the legendary muscle car is capable of, the Drag Times team decided to compare its dynamic characteristics with the Ford GT supercar.

Instead of “putting” these cars with each other in a straight-line race (drag racing) on some closed highway, the guys arranged races on the roads of one of the industrial parks. While such public rides are still dangerous, the Drag Times team at least selects an area with little movement.

It is worth noting that the GT500, participating in this video, already belongs to one of the buyers, who is nearby and is watching the outcome of the race. After warming up the gearbox, the machine is ready to participate in a serious test.

This is where the GT500 shows potential weakness. Initially, the car starts normally, but activating the traction control function seems to turn off the engine power momentarily. To remove this “negative effect”, in the launch control options (launch control), the traction control function was removed. But anyway, eliminating this problem did not help the updated GT500 withstand the Ford GT supercar.

Specialists from the Drag Times are adjusting the launch control of the GT500 at different engine speeds to see how this will affect the performance of the new product. Two copies of the new Shelby GT500 are participating in the race and it is most interesting to look at their confrontation with each other, as they both lose to the Ford GT supercar. As the owner of one of the Shelby GT500 said, his next step is to install a new supercharger pulley and remove catalytic converters, which should lead to a significant increase in power.
