A video appeared on the Youtube channel, which shows how modern crossovers of the compact segment cope with off-road conditions. The test involved Toyota RAV4, VW Tiguan, Mazda CX-5, Changan CS75, Subaru Forester and Mitsubishi Outlander.

There are a ton of crossovers these days and you have many options to purchase, especially if you are looking for a compact model. Most crossover buyers don’t buy them for off-roading, but some of them advertise all-wheel drive off-road modes.

But to what extent do these regimes offer unsuspecting consumers? SUV Battle, a YouTube channel specializing in crossover versus SUV comparison, today released a video showing the off-road capabilities of nine popular compact crossovers.

It’s fair to say that the driver and the set of tires used on each vehicle are different. Both of these factors greatly influence the end result of each crossover.

As all vehicles follow the same route, surface integrity is compromised after each vehicle passes, potholes become deeper and soil becomes looser. Thus, the last car is in the most difficult position, and therefore the test began with the car with the least power.

After the test, SUV Battle rated nine compact crossovers according to their results. The Mazda CX-5 was the least performing model of them all, finishing in fifth place, which suggests that this car is really not designed for off-roading.

Fourth place went to Changan CS75, Subaru Forester, Mitsubishi Outlander and Volkswagen Tiguan with a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine. Third place went to the Tiguan with a more powerful 2.0-liter engine, followed by the Kia Sportage and Nissan Rogue. Unsurprisingly, the Toyota RAV4, with its new off-road mode, won the test.

Not so long ago, AutoTimesNews wrote about which truck – Ram TRX and Ford F-150 Raptor, is better off-road. The TFL Offroad team from the YouTube channel of the same name decided to test the high-performance Ram TRX and Ford F-150 Raptor trucks in off-road conditions. The goal of the published video was to find out which of them is the best for overcoming off-road.
