What is known about the electric versions of the Hummer and Escalade SUVs?November 15, 2019
From the end of 2021, production of an industrial park will launch production of an electric pickup truck, as well as an electric version of the Hummer SUV. Well, from the middle of 2023, the electric Cadillac Escalade will also join them.
The initial plan for US General Motors to use capacity in the Detroit-Hamtramck industrial park was to stop the production of the Cadillac CT6 and Chevrolet Impala sedans there. This would happen in June this year, but the management of the concern changed its mind and decided to extend the production of both sedans until January 2020. After a 40-day strike by the Automobile Workers’ Union (UAW) and the signing of the agreement, the GM guys are changing their minds again – now the production of prestigious sedans will be extended until the end of February next year.
Now, there is information that from the end of 2021, the Detroit-Hamtramck plant will launch production of an electric pickup truck and an Hummer electric SUV (a prototype of the new version of the model in the photo).
Not only that, the production of the electric version of the Cadillac Escalade will allegedly follow; it will happen in the middle of 2023, when the plant will also begin production of the full-size GMC Sierra pickup in the electric version.
A factory of 12 million square meters has already built more than 4 million cars since its opening in 1985 – the first model to be launched was the Cadillac Eldorado sedan. The Detroit-Hamtramck Industrial Park spans two cities, as the science center is in Hamtramke, and the assembly plant is located in Detroit.
