Watch Volkswagen ID.R set a record on 99 Turns RoadSeptember 16, 2019
In early September, an electric car overcame the track in 7 minutes 38.585 seconds
German automaker Volkswagen posted a video on how the ID.R electric sports car set the record for 99 Turns, a serpentine on Tianmen Mountain in early September.
The total length of the route was 10.906 kilometers. The electric supercar started at 200 meters above sea level, and finished 1100 meters above.
Electric ID.R was not just a track record holder – it was the first car whose record was officially recorded. Earlier Range Rover Sport SVR managed to overcome the serpentine in 9 minutes and 51 seconds, but its result was unofficial.
The sports car is equipped with two two electric motors, the total power of which is 680 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. ID.R spends 2.25 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour, the maximum speed is limited to around 210 kilometers per hour.
Over the past year, a sports car from Volkswagen has already set three records on tracks with different characteristics. Last summer, racer Romain Dumas managed to win the title of the fastest Pikes Peak car, in June 2019 ID.R became the fastest Nurburgring electric car, and a month later showed the best time for the last 20 years of climbing the Hill of the Festival of Speed in Goodwood.
