Watch the Gymkhana Subaru WRX STI versus the 1,300hp Altima drift car.June 7, 2021
Hoonigan’s YouTube channel has released a video of Travis Pastrana and his custom-built Subaru WRX STI competing against a 1,300hp Nissan Altima drift car.
Built for racer Travis Pastran and a YouTube car show called the Gymkhana 11, the Subaru WRX STI is a phenomenal performance car. This car was recently unveiled at the Hoonigan drag strip for some races against the equally unique Nissan Altima.
The Altima in question belongs to Formula Drift champion Chris Forsberg and has been completely modified for drifting.
However, this does not mean that this car will perform poorly when accelerating in a straight line, as it was recently proven when it overtook a modified 1000 hp Dodge Charger Hellcat sedan. and radial brake tires.
Key changes made to this Altima include the installation of a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine from the Nissan GT-R, which, depending on settings, can produce up to 2000 hp. power, but is currently about 1300 hp.
In the other corner is Pastrana’s WRX STI. It was built by Subaru Motorsports USA and the Vermont SportsCar team and features a custom 2.3-liter boxer engine with an engine block and crankshaft from the Subaru RallyCross program. It also has a dual timing belt system and a huge turbocharger, and develops at least 862 hp. While this is significantly less than the Forsberg Altima, Subaru has the advantage of being four-wheel drive.
With better grip, the Subaru pulls off much better than the Altima and gets through the first two races with ease. However, then a “rolling” race is held between the pair, and in this case it was Nissan who broke away from Subaru and won.
