Watch the classic Volvo P1800 sweep through the snowFebruary 17, 2021
As part of their new video, the team from the YouTube channel Cyan Racing demonstrates what the Volvo P1800 is capable of in the snow.According to the driver of this car, the car behaves surprisingly obediently in various turns in the snow.
The first half of the video highlights the rich sound of the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the second part shows the car’s “dance” movements as it glides along the track.
Cyan Racing filmed this video in Åre, Sweden. The temperature there was -20 Celsius.
“What really impressed me about this expedition is that the car is so easy to drive,” said Matthias Evensson, Volvo P1800 Cyan Project Manager and Cyan Racing Engineering Manager. “The level of control we were trying to achieve was almost enhanced by riding on a weak grip on snow and ice.”
The P1800 Cyan shares the overall look of the classic coupe of the Swedish brand, but the two have almost nothing in common. The track is wider and the cabin has a slightly different layout. The body and chassis are made of carbon fiber and high strength steel. Lightweight materials reduce machine weight to 990 kg.
The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is borrowed from the Volvo S60 TC1 race car and features a 7,700 rpm red line. Its power is 413 horsepower (455 Nm). The motor is powered by a five-speed curved manual transmission that shifts second gear where you’d normally expect to find third. The torque-regulating limited slip rear differential improves traction, which is necessary because the P1800 Cyan does not have electronic driver assistance systems.
