Watch the 1502hp Ford Mustang Cobra Jet rears up at launchSeptember 4, 2020
The American automaker has published a video showing the electric Mustang Cobra Jet 1400. The car covers 402 meters in eight seconds, while its speed at the end of the journey is 270 km / h.
In April, Ford unveiled an all-electric version of its factory drag car called the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400. Details were limited at the time, but Ford announced that it was the only prototype of the model. The automaker designed it in parallel with Ford’s other powerful electric racing car, the Mach-E 1400. A new video shows the powerful electric coupe on a drag lane, where it covered 402 meters in 8.27 seconds. The maximum speed was 270 km / h.
Ford worked with the Cascadia Motion team to tune the powertrain, which consists of four electric motors.
The total power is 1400 horsepower (1491 Nm). However, recent development tests recorded 1502 hp. on the wheels of an electric vehicle, which exceeds the passport data.
“Since the car’s debut, we have continued to push it to perfection and now we know that we are not using its full power to set crazy speed records in drag racing,” said Mark Rushbrook, Global Manager. Director of Ford Performance Motorsports.
The Cobra Jet 1400 will take part in the NHRA US Nationals for the first time this weekend, where the electric version of the sports coupe will battle the Cobra Jet, which is powered by a regular gasoline engine. The electric car will be driven by Bob Tusca III, while two-time funny car champion and Fox TV presenter Tony Pedregon will race in the petrol version of the legendary sports coupe.
