W Series organizers canceled 2020 seasonJune 4, 2020
The organizers of the W Series Women’s Racing Championship announced the cancellation of the 2020 season.
The championship was supposed to start May 30 on the Igo Drive highway near St. Petersburg as part of the DTM series stage and end on October 31 in Mexico City as one of the Formula 1 support races. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the new W Series season will only take place in 2021. The calendar for the next season is under discussion, but it is already known that the two races will be held in Austin and Mexico City as part of the stages of Formula 1.
Catherine Bon Muir, executive director of the series: “After the stunning success of the W Series in the debut season last year, it was not easy for us to decide not to return to the track until 2021. However, we are already working on the calendar for the next season and can confirm that several races will be held as part of the stages of Formula 1 – in the USA and Mexico.
We had to make a very difficult, but inevitable decision to put an end to the uncertainty associated with our plans for 2020. We will concentrate all our efforts on preparing for 2021 to present a more intense and interesting racing program than before. “
