Volvo XC40 became the “Car of the Year” in EuropeMarch 5, 2018
Before the start of the Geneva Motor Show, the winner was named Car of the Year. For the Swedish brand this is the first victory in the competition.
Crossover Volvo XC40 won in the competition, gaining 325 votes. The closest pursuer of the “Swede” was a Seat Ibiza hatchback with 242 votes and the Bavarian sedan BMW 5 Series closed the triple. Among the nominees were also Kia Stinger (204 points), Citroen C3 Aircross (171 points), Audi A8 (169 points) and Alfa Romeo Stelvio (163 points).
By the way, the crossover wins the competition only the second time. The first was the Peugeot 3008, which was chosen as the “Best European Car” last year. For the French brand, the victory in 2017 was already the fifth. The flagship Volvo XC90 was nominated in 2016, but won second place, in 2013 the Volvo V40 was the third, like the Volvo 760 in 1983.
Recall, the Volvo XC40 was introduced in the fall of 2017 at a special event in Milan, Italy. This is the first model of the brand, based on the modular CMA platform, which will be used by other 40 models.
