Volvo will present competitors BMW X4 and Audi Q8June 10, 2021
The Swedish automaker will expand its current lineup with several popular cross coupes and budget family cars.
The fashion for crossovers with a falling roofline, the so-called “coupe-like” ones, came from the German SUV BMW X6, which was released back in 2008. Moreover, for many years this interpretation of the classic crossover did not enjoy much interest from automakers.
That all changed in the last few years when Audi, Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and other automakers introduced their cross-coupes. The Swedish Volvo also decided to keep up with them. Its firstborn in this niche is the Volvo C40 Recharge. This is a coupe variant of the XC40 Recharge electric cross.
The same 402-horsepower twin-engine power plant is responsible for its performance, only now its body has become more elegant. The Swedes were a little late with the development of this niche, but the brand has a chance to get into the front ranks due to the release of new coupe-like SUVs.
The brand is going to attract customers with its versatility and high ground clearance. If the public accepts the new C40 well, then the Swedes can start producing coupe variants for the larger crossovers XC60 and XC90.
Let’s remind, earlier Volvo patented the trade name “XC50”.
However, the novelty is unlikely to look like a coupe: its index begins with the letter “X”, not “C”. Moreover, the announced new items can replace the current sedans and station wagons.
In general, the brand is going to produce cars that meet the needs of customers, including in the field of electrification. At the same time, the automaker wants to maintain its corporate identity.
