Volvo V40 will return in a cross-coupeJuly 8, 2020
In the near future, a new car is expected in the Volvo lineup – a coupe-shaped crossover, which will become the successor to the V40 that was discontinued in August last year. These plans are confirmed in the leadership of the corporation.
Sales of new items should begin within the next two years. It will compete with the Audi Q2, BMW X2 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
The V40 successor will be built on the new, more modern CMA architecture, which will make the car more spacious and allow equipping it with hybrid powertrains. In this case, a completely electric variation may appear. The same platform underlies the XC40 cross, therefore, the motors in the car will be the same.
“We need to do something creative. It is for this reason that we decided not just to release a new generation of V40. There are things that cannot be ignored when creating the next generation V40. For example, high landing – we saw that more and more people prefer the XC40 rather than the V40. But it seems to me that after some time people will return to classic sedans and hatchbacks, since this is an absolutely different handling. Currently, the opposite trend is observed, ”said Senior Vice President Lex Kersemakers.
In addition, it was recently noted that Volvo’s worldwide sales in June almost completely repeated last year’s result. The most popular model of the Swedish brand was the mid-size cross XC60.
