Volvo V40 can turn into a cross-coupeJanuary 18, 2019
The Swedish brand is thinking about abandoning the current compact hatchback Volvo V40, as its sales have been falling in recent years.
At least, the current version of the hatchback will leave the assembly line as morally obsolete in modern trends. So far there is no information about “replacement”, but there is a lot of indirect information from company representatives.
Today, the Volvo V40 compact hatchback model is in quite high demand, although it is built on a rather outdated Ford Global C. Platform. In 2018, 77,587 copies were sold, but the company is preparing a global update for the model, but rather a complete reincarnation.
So, in the modern line of the 40-series will include a new version of the model V40, which is likely to become a coupe-like crossover. The model will be based on the Volvo V40.2 concept. “We need to do something more creative, so we decided not to replace the V40 directly, but to try to introduce another body style in the fortieth series,” Lex Volcemakers, European Volvo chief, explained to Autocar.
So far there are no details about the new product, but this year the current version of the hatchback will be discontinued, and the presentation of the new product will take place shortly. And earlier it was assumed that the V40 will become a fully electric car, but this is unlikely, although the electrified version will definitely be.
“We can not take too long with the presentation of the new machine, if you do not want to lose a place in the segment,” – said a top manager of the company.
In the meantime, Geely unveiled a coupe-like novelty stuffed by Volvo. Finally, the Chinese giant introduced a new model under the intra-corporate index FY11.
