Volvo is preparing a small cross XC20October 2, 2020
Volvo’s lineup will soon have the smallest cross, which is expected to be named the XC20.
As reported by AutoExpress, in an interview with the publication, the head of the Swedish brand Hakan Samuelsson said that the new model will be built on the Geely – SEA architecture.
The first car to be based on the SEA platform was the Lynk & Co Zero show car, unveiled last week. The trolley, created by Geely specialists specifically for electric vehicles, will be able to be used by all brands of the Chinese automaker, including Volvo. In the future, Geely plans to transform SEA into an “open source platform”, which will provide an opportunity to apply the development to third parties.
Speaking of the XC20 cross-country, the current CMA architecture underlying, for example, the XC40 model cannot be used for such a compact car. Because of this, the choice fell on SEA, as a result, it became possible to reduce the cost of creating your own platform. During the interview, Samuelsson noted that the XC20 will be electrified and will be part of a strategy to electrify half of Volvo’s models by 2025. So, we can assume that the demonstration of the XC20 will take place in the next 4.5 years.
