Volvo helped Geely build a new crossover: official photosJuly 31, 2018
Geely introduced the BMA (B-segment Modular Architecture) a little over a week ago. At the same time, images of the first model, based on this platform, were published – a crossover, known so far under the code name SX11. In those pictures, the “SUV” is covered with a camouflage film, but now the Chinese shared images of the model without camouflage.
As previously stated in Geely, the BMA platform was developed by the company’s own forces, but some elements are still borrowed from the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) truck created by the Chinese together with Volvo (Geely owns the Swedish company). The “senior” platform is based models of the brand Lynk & Co (joint project Geely and Volvo), as well as the crossover Volvo XC40.
The exterior of the SX11 is made in the corporate style of the Chinese brand, for which Peter Horbury, who previously worked in Volvo, is responsible. The length of the ІГМ is 4,330 mm, the width is 1,800 mm, the height is 1,609 mm, the wheelbase is 2,600 mm in size. The cross Volvo XC40 is larger: 4 425/1 863/1 910 mm, the distance between the axles is 2,702 mm.
The new Geely is equipped with a petrol turbo 1.5, developed again, together with Volvo: this motor is also in the XC40 line, but the “Swede” it produces 156 hp (265 Nm), and the power of the engine Chinese car – 177 hp. (255 Nm). According to preliminary data, Geely SX11 will be offered with a seven-speed robotic transmission with a double clutch, while a Volvo XC40 1.5T crossover is now available from the 6MKP (later, an eight-speed automatic transmission should appear). The Chinese cross will pick up the first 100 km/h for 7.9 seconds, the “Swede” with such a motor – for 9.4 seconds. Another SX11 will receive a hybrid version, but details about the installation are not disclosed. Also, it is not yet known whether Geely SX11 has a four-wheel drive.
In the Chinese market, a new crossover should be released in the fourth quarter of this year. Later SX11, probably, will be sent for export.
In the future, the platform BMA will form the basis of other new SUV Geely (one of them may already be tested), as well as sedans, hatchbacks and compacts. Moreover, it is expected that this architecture will be used by other brands belonging to the Chinese company, Volvo and the Malaysian Proton. In addition to the 1.5T engine for the models on the BMA platform, there are gasoline turbo turbines 1.0 and turbo quarters 1.4. Such engines are in the range of the recently presented sedan Emgrand SL (local name – Binrui). In the “four-door” engine 1.0T produces 136 hp, 1.4T – 133 hp. The sedan is built on the old Geely platform.]
