Volvo electric trucks will enter the market in 2019January 26, 2018
Volvo is trying to get ahead of Tesla at least in the segment of trucks on electric traction.
The Swedish manufacturer Volvo Trucks has announced that it will begin supplying electric trucks to the markets of Europe and North America from next year.
Volvo Trucks announced the opening of a new market segment for a couple of months later from Tesla, which introduced its Semi electric truck. However, electric trucks from Volvo will appear earlier for a year on a free sale.
According to the president of the company Klas Nilsson, electric cars will play an important role in improving the ecology in urban areas. In addition, trucks on electric traction will produce much less noise than traditional vehicles with diesel engines.
“Using electric trucks, we simultaneously solve two problems. Without violating the norms of noise and harmful emissions, they can be operated in urban centers. Transportation will take place late in the evening and at night, when the streets are free of traffic jams, ” – Nilsson said.
During a recent study conducted by the municipality of Stockholm and the Royal Institute of Technology KTH, it was found that electric trucks can complete the task, spending one-third less time than conventional transport. After all, they do not need to ride in the rush hour.
