Volkswagen will release another compact crossover, which will be at the very beginning of the German SUV line. This is with reference to the head of the South American division of the automaker Pablo di Ci reports the publication Quatro Rodas.
Apparently, we are talking about the resumption of the small Taigun crossover project, the prototypes of which were shown in 2012 and 2014. The development of a production car with a length of not more than four meters will be undertaken by the Brazilian division of Volkswagen. At the same time, the novelty is positioned as a global model, which will also get to Europe.
The car will be based on the modular platform MQB-A0, used on the Polo hatchback. The T-Sport coupe-crossover, which is also being developed in Brazil and will be presented next spring, will be built on the same chassis.
The launch of the model in the Brazilian market is scheduled for spring 2020. As expected, the gasoline turbo engine with a working volume of 1 liter with a capacity of 115 liters will enter the line of engines. with., as well as a 1.6-liter atmospheric unit, issuing 120 horsepower. Motors will be able to work in tandem with a five-speed “mechanics” or with a six-band “automatic”.
In Brazil, the production of a coupe-crossover will establish at the Volkswagen company in the municipality of Ansieta (state of Espirito Santo). It is possible that the version for Europe will get on the conveyor of the plant in the Spanish Navarre, where Polo hatchbacks are produced.
