Volkswgen Touareg R became a hybridOctober 24, 2019
Volkswagen intends to expand the R-class line with the new version of the Touareg SUV, which is expected to be introduced next year and will go on sale in 2021.
Touareg has been confirmed as the “first R model with a hybrid plug-in” by VW sales and marketing boss Jürgen Stackmann, who spoke before the release of the new Volkswagen Golf Mk8. After confirming Touareg R, Stackmann continued, saying: “We start with this journey, and Jos Capito and his team are faced with the task of providing us with an electric future for R. Then this is a journey for R. For the next five years, when we release several Rs. next year, we will combine these cars with a very strong call for low emissions. “
The Touareg is currently offered with a hybrid option in China, and it is expected that this car will go on sale in Europe in the coming months. It is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine connected to a 134-hp electric motor. with a total power of 363 hp and a torque of 516 Nm.
Currently, the fastest Touareg offered in the UK is the 335-hp non-hybrid V6 petrol model. Whether Volkswagen plans to electrify this transmission to increase its power to 400 hp is not yet known, but it is also possible that the four-cylinder engine can be increased to fit R.
When asked about the possibility of a fully electric R, Stackmann admitted that there was still a way before such a thing became viable. “In the near future, I think that we will still see R in the usual form, so that they will be true to what R is today, but obviously we need to worry about this, since our emissions should decrease in 2020, R needs to go on the road. ”
