Volkswagen will send for repair almost 700 thousand cars worldwideAugust 24, 2019
Under this large-scale service campaign several models of the German brand fall at once. The reason that all of these cars needed repairs is because of a faulty ignition switch.
Volkswagen recalls 679,027 vehicles, each of which is equipped with an automatic transmission and keyless entry system. This revocable campaign, which kicks off on October 11th, has touched on a number of German brand models. Among them – Beetle and Beetle Convertible (2012-2019 years of release), Golf GTI (2015-2019), as well as Golf, off the assembly line in 2015-2016 and 2018-2019. The review will affect owners of Jetta 2011-2018 and Golf SportWagen 2017-2019. The reason for the recall is described on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The press release states that drivers can accidentally remove the key from the ignition while the car is moving. This can trigger a serious accident and, as a result, all kinds of injuries.
All drivers know about the ban on removing the key from the ignition when the gear lever is not in Parking mode. However, the agency drew attention to the fact that the accumulation of silicate on the contacts of the microswitch of the gear lever can lead to the fact that the key will be removed from the ignition. The company does not know about unpleasant incidents related to this problem. The recall was announced as a precaution. During the repair work, specialists will install an additional switch and circuit board on “problematic” cars for free.
