Volkswagen will not work on an updated version of the “charged” Polo RMarch 21, 2020
The general manager of the Volkswagen R sports division spoke about why the updated Polo hatchback in the more powerful R-version will not be presented.
At the beginning of last year, the high-performance T-Roc R crossover appeared in the model line of the Volkswagen R sports division, and last month we were introduced the “charged” Touareg R. Even the family of all-electric cars of the company, which are sold under the VW ID designation, in the future will receive more powerful R-versions.
“We will not work on the updated Polo hatchback in the more powerful R-version. Demand for such a version of the car can and will be, but most likely at a fairly low level, and the price of the car will be quite high, ”said VW R CEO Josta Capito.
The magnitude of consumer demand for a particular car is a fundamental criterion for brand leadership to give the green light to the new model, so if VW does not see the future for Polo R, precisely because the model will not be in high demand, it definitely will not will spend on the development of the machine of its resources.
It is worth noting that rumors about the appearance of a more powerful Polo R performance began to appear in 2014 – even then, the guys from Volkswagen announced that the car would not be presented. Nevertheless, in 2017, some company representatives nevertheless mentioned that the Polo R with a capacity of 300 horsepower was still at the testing stage, which gave enthusiasts little hope for a small “hot” hatchback.
