Volkswagen will discuss the possibility of producing a large pickup truckAugust 7, 2018
The management of Volkswagen is considering the possibility of producing a large pickup truck, which will be based on the Atlas Tanoak concept car. About this, referring to the head of the North American division of the concern Heinrich Voebken informs Autocar.
“Such a car would suit our brand well, since we want to become more Americanized in the US. Nevertheless, we should approach this issue carefully, because this is a very patriotic segment, where local producers dominate, ” – explained Voebken.
Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak was introduced in the spring of 2018 at the motor show in New York. The novelty was based on the platform of the large Atlas crossover. The overall length of the pickup truck was 5436 mm, which is 381 mm longer than the Atlas. The width of the car exceeded two meters, and its height is 1829 millimeters. The size of the wheelbase increased by 280 mm – up to 3251 millimeters.
The prototype is equipped with a 3.6-liter petrol engine V6, developing 280 hp and 360 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and 4Motion four-wheel drive system with several off-road driving modes. Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak is able to accelerate from place to 96 km/h in 8.5 seconds.
