Externally, the electric car resembles sports prototypes that participate in endurance races, including “24 Hours of Le Mans”. Volkswagen I.D. R large front splitter, as well as a massive rear fender. Technical characteristics of the novelty are not yet known.

The annual event “Race in the Clouds” is held in the USA in the Rocky Mountains from 1916 near the city of Colorado Springs. The length of the route is 19.99 kilometers. The start is at an altitude of 2800 m, and the finish is located at 4302 m above sea level. The last time the Volkswagen brand took part in the Pikes Peak more than 30 years ago – in 1987, a special version of the Golf model with two 652 horsepower engines fought for the victory.

The serial production of new generation Volkswagen electric cars will begin in 2020. The first representative of the family I.D. will become a compact model, and after it will appear a crossover, minivan and a flagship sedan. By 2025 the Germans are planning to launch more than 20 cars with electric power units in the series.
