Volkswagen updates camper CaliforniaJuly 3, 2019
Earlier this year, the company announced a modernization of the California line. Currently released two sketches that give an idea of how the van will change.
Apparently, Camper California 6.1 will receive the same design updates as the Multivan 6.1 on which it is based. Among them is a new front grille, whose dimensions have increased. Also installed new headlights. Redesigned bumper, which is complemented by fog lights and black trim.
Inside also carried out serious work. Residential and sleeping units have been upgraded. The multifunctional control unit of the van, built into the ceiling, has become more modern – many functions have become digital.
As with the Volkswagen Multivan, the dashboard was equipped with new tools, some of which are available for the first time on a digital dashboard. New online services will appear in the infotainment system that offers eSIM integration to provide access to mobile services.
Volkswagen California 6.1 gets electric power steering, which also allows the use of new driver assistance systems: help in keeping the lane, help in towing the trailer and stability in side wind.
The California 6.1 will be produced with a 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine rated at 199 hp (146 kW). The world premiere of the updated camper will be held at the end of August at the specialized exhibition Caravan-Salon in Dusseldorf, Germany.
