Is Volkswagen planning to reach a heavy-duty pickup market for this brand in the United States? According to a press release announcing that the Tarok concept is taking the stage at the New York Auto Show this year, there are no plans for a serial version of the VW truck to be sold in the USA.
The Tarok concept made its debut in Brazil last November at the Sau Paolo International Motor Show, where it attracted a lot of attention. Positioned as a compact truck, it has a 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces a modest 147 horsepower, which transmits power to all four wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Tarok uses a full-time 4Motion all-wheel drive setup with settings for various conditions. VW representatives say that the Tarok pickup is fully capable of off-road travel thanks to an entry angle of 604 mm, an exit angle of 670 mm and a ride height of 243 mm.
One of the features of VW Tarok is the interior and loading platform that can be changed at the request of the client.
The length of the latter may be more than 1,828 mm – this figure is almost equal to what most full-size pickups can offer.
Although Tarok is technically a concept, it is built on the VW MQB modular platform, and the automaker has already confirmed that the car will be put into production in almost the same form as the presented concept.
