Volkswagen stops production of 200 variants of its modelsJune 7, 2018
The top manager of the Volkswagen Group reported on the forced stop of production of some models due to the introduction of a new environmental test standard for cars – WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure).
The issue of ecology, in recent times, is very acute for the world’s automakers and the government of many countries. And companies have to spend huge sums to implement projects to reduce emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere, and the government is forced to sponsor various programs for the disposal of various wastes, as well as stimulating the population to use environmental transport.
As part of the struggle for the ecology of our planet, new requirements for cars are constantly being introduced, and new ways of testing are being developed. So, recently, a new standard was introduced for testing the amount of harmful substances in the exhaust gases of cars – WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure). In this regard, some companies had to stop the production and sale of their cars in Europe.
At the moment, the head of the Volkswagen Group, Herbert Diss, reports on the need for urgent testing and obtaining environmental approval of more than 200 models.
“Only within the Volkswagen brand, we need to test more than 200 model variants and get their approval. To cope with this task, our test benches will work almost round the clock. We will only make cars that meet the new standards. Vehicles will be delivered in stages, as soon as the relevant certificates are received. “- Herbert reports.
Recall that in recent years, several companies have announced the suspension of production: Audi, Porsche and BMW. Unfortunately, Volkswagen does not specify specific models or their modifications yet, but it is reported that the cars already produced will be handed over to dealers and buyers in the regular order. When the resumption of production is also not reported.
