Automobile publication, with reference to its own sources in the company, spoke about the resumption of work on the hot hatch. Development is conducted in parallel with the new Golf R on the territory of the Volkswagen research center in Braunschweig, Germany. It is assumed that the model will receive a power unit with a capacity of up to 400 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. The future novelty is considered as a flagship sports product.
Standard sports hatch Golf R can not be compared with the top version. It is possible that the new product will be able to accelerate to “hundreds” in about 3.9 seconds, and the maximum speed for civilian versions will be limited to 280 km / h.
The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine from the EA888 line will be used as the power unit. Together with it will work branded automatic transmission, as well as all-wheel drive system 4Motion with electronic imitation of the self-assembly XDS +. A feature of the model will be drift mode.
Previously, the company, represented by the head of Volkswagen R division, Jost Capito, declared that there was no intention to release this model due to low demand and high cost.
