Volkswagen R will create “charged” electric carsMay 18, 2020
Volkswagen is not shy about its future plans for electric cars, but now there is a new report that says the German automaker will turn the R division into a brand for the production of “charged” electric cars.
In a conversation with Top Gear, VW Group board member Jürgen Stackmann said that future R models will be not only interesting, but also electric.
“The future of R must and will be electric. We are still working on what we started two and a half years ago, but there is work ahead and the lineup will be electrified, ”“ said Stackmann.
The electric future of the R brand, of course, has already begun, as VW recently introduced the Touareg R, the first model of the R unit to be equipped with a hybrid powerplant. The top version of the German SUV is equipped with a plug-in module and combines a 3.0-liter V6 with a power of 336 hp. paired with a 130 hp electric motor The electric motor is powered by a battery with a capacity of 14.1 kW / h, and the total return of the units is 456 hp.
And let’s not forget the ID.R model, the Volkswagen battery sports car that has set many records all over the world. Nevertheless, fans of the internal combustion engine will have the opportunity to purchase a modified car from Volkswagen R engineers, which applies to the eighth generation of the Golf hatchback. The “charged” version of the Golf family will be equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, paired with all-wheel drive, and, hopefully, will retain the title of the best hatchback.
