The company Volkswagen has published new teaser images of its new sports car. Judging by the pictures, the car will receive a domed roof, a splitter and a large wing. The car will receive an electric power unit and take part in an extreme climb along the route on the American mountain Pikes Peak.
Arrival will take place on June 24, 2018. Pilot the electric car will be the French racer Romain Dumas. The athlete, who recently turned 40 years old, is the winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (2010, 2016) and 24 Hours of the Nurburgring (2007-2009, 2011).
“This trip will allow us to demonstrate the effectiveness of the future Volkswagen battery and the powertrain capability,” – said Sven Smits, director of Volkswagen Motorsport.
At the moment, Pikes-Peak’s record among electric cars belongs to Riss Millen. The rider was able to overcome the climb on the highway in 8 minutes and 57,118 seconds behind the wheel prototype e0 PP100. Earlier this title belonged to the electric car company Faraday Future. The FF91 machine, run by the chief engineer Faraday Future, Robin Schutt, traveled a 20-kilometer distance on the mountain in Colorado in 11 minutes 25,083 seconds.
By 2030, Volkswagen will invest 20 billion euros in the development of cars with electric and hybrid power plants. By 2025, among all the brands controlled by Volkswagen, there will be up to 80 new electrified models – 50 more than previously thought. In 2030, the number of electric cars developed within the group will reach 300 items.
