Volkswagen plans to make Skoda a competitor to low-cost Hyundai and KiaOctober 1, 2019
The German concern decided to make a deep differentiation of its brands, transferring Skoda to the budget segment, and Seat cars will become more emotional.
According to Automotive News, as a result of the restructuring of the Volkswagen Group, Seat brand models can go up in price and fit the strategy of Ferdinand Piech, who wanted the brand to compete with Alfa Romeo. At the same time, probably due to the new state of affairs, Skoda will reduce the number of premium features in its future cars and focus on the Eastern European market, where the main competitors of the Czechs are Dacia, Hyundai and Kia.
“In the future, we want a clearer positioning of each of our brands. Seat has Cupra models that can play on emotions and passions, and Skoda could sell more efficiently, meeting the needs of Eastern European markets, pushing for functionality more intensively than it is now, ”says the publication of the words of the head of the VW Group’s strategic department Michael Jost.
In addition, management will closely monitor the competitiveness between brand models. For example, the new Volkswagen Tiguan Coupe will not appear in Europe.
