Volkswagen Phideon flagship sedan received an updateSeptember 28, 2020
The car was unveiled at the ongoing Beijing Auto Show. The changes from the previous version turned out to be not very significant.
Volkswagen has updated its flagship Phideon sedan, which is being sold in the Chinese car market. For the first time, the sedan appeared on sale in 2016, but has not yet gained popularity. At the end of 2019, it sold only 14 thousand units, which is quite a bit for the Chinese market. Volkswagen hopes the updates will benefit the demand for the new product.
In appearance, the changes turned out not too serious – the designers slightly changed the bumpers and modernized the radiator grill. The brand logo with contour illumination became a striking link. Inside, the car has retained an analog dashboard, which is its disadvantage compared to direct competitors. However, an additional set of equipment can be distinguished. In particular, the seats of the second row will receive the function of massage and ventilation, and a small refrigerator will be built into the back of the chair.
Buyers will be offered a version with a single 2.0-liter turbo engine, which is capable of developing 224 hp.
The motor works together with the proprietary DSG “robot” and the front-wheel drive system. Before restyling, dealers sold a version with a hybrid engine, but they rarely bought it. Auto production is established near Shanghai in a joint venture with SAIC.
