Volkswagen Passat will replace electric car in AmericaFebruary 7, 2020
According to Johan de Nyssen, the head of Volkswagen of America, the corporation will abandon the Passat model and after a couple of years will replace it with an electric sedan. We are talking only about cars for the North American market. The successor to the model may be the product variation of the prototype ID. Vizzion
The American Volkswagen Passat appeared in 2011, and it differed from the “European” one in both dimensions and simpler technical equipment. Later, the same car came out in China, where in 2018 it changed generation and now it is based on the MQB platform.
At the same time, America decided to confine itself only to a deep update, partly because sales did not live up to expectations and the production of a truly new model would not be economically feasible.
In an interview with Roadshow, Johan de Nyssen said that Passat has a “limited life cycle, and upon completion, the model is unlikely to have a sequel. Surely, it will be replaced by an electric sedan, which will be developed on the basis of the conceptual model ID. Vizzion introduced in 2018. It will become larger and more productive than the current car, which has a “turbo four” 2.0 TSI with a capacity of 176 hp, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Already in the initial configuration, the sedan will be equipped with LED headlights. Adaptive matrix IQ.Light will be offered as an option. Also, the car will be equipped with the IQ.Drive complex, which consists of intelligent cruise control, lane keeping and blind zone monitoring, as well as the Discover Pro infotainment system with a 9.2-inch screen and navigation.
