Volkswagen is testing a new JettaMarch 5, 2019
The company is testing the Jetta compact crossover, which will resemble SEAT Ateca, on the basis of which it will be built. He is expected to play an important role and help increase Volkswagen sales in the Chinese market.
Currently, Volkswagen Jetta is being tested in winter conditions on the roads of Scandinavia. The prototype is camouflaged, but you can see its headlights and taillights with a Y-shaped pattern. From Ateca will be inherited spoiler on the trunk lid, glazing elements behind the rear door, shoulder line and wheel arches.
Details about the model are unknown. It is assumed that the dimensions will be about the same as that of Ateca. Thus, the Jetta VS5 will be approximately 4360 mm in length and will receive a wheelbase of 2640 mm in length, which is much more than the T-Cross, but less than the Tiguan. The Jetta will most likely not get the all-wheel drive system, since it is considered as an urban crossover. The most likely choice of engine is a 1.4-liter TSI, whose power will be about 150 hp, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine may also be offered.
“In China, the Jetta plays an extremely valuable role. He conveyed to the masses the same idea of mobility as Beetle had once done in Europe. Today it is one of the most popular Volkswagen models in China – a real icon. That is why we are transforming a model into a brand for the first time in the history of Volkswagen and creating a separate model and brand family, ”said Jürgen Stackmann, member of the board of Volkswagen responsible for sales.
