Volkswagen is going to build a new enterprise in the USANovember 14, 2019
Volkswagen of America intends to build an enterprise near its Chattanooga plant to build batteries for its future electric car line.
A corresponding announcement was made during the foundation-laying ceremony for the expansion of the Chattanooga plant, for which $ 800 million was allocated for investments so that electric cars could be produced on the basis of the Volkswagen MEB platform. Currently, the company is engaged in the production of models such as Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport and Passat.
According to assumptions, the company will open an additional approximately 1,000 jobs. Volkswagen plans to assemble ICE cars and battery cars on the same assembly line.
VW is about to start producing the compact ID4 crossover in Chattanooga in 2022. It is expected that sales of ID4 in America will begin at the end of 2020, however, the first time the production of the model will be carried out at an enterprise in Zwickau, Germany.
The battery cells for the ID4 model and subsequent electric cars to be assembled in Chattanooga will come from SK Innovation’s new venture in Commerce, Georgia, which spent $ 1.7 billion on the construction.
