Volkswagen is developing an affordable compact electric carJuly 25, 2020
Volkswagen is working on an electric city car called the ID.1. This was reported by Car Magazine.
The ID.1, which will replace the e-Up !, will be a 5-door hatchback with design details from ID.3. In the future, on the basis of the novelty, they can build the ID.1 Crozz crossover and the e-Roomzz van.
The novelty will be based on the MEB platform, while the architecture will be simplified to reduce the cost of the model. ID.1, in particular, will receive small batteries with a capacity of 24 and 36 kWh. The latter will provide a cruising range of 298 km.
The ID.1 is expected to debut in 2023 as a prototype and will enter the assembly line two years later. In turn, the head of Volkswagen Ralph Brandstätter said that the company is working on an electric car worth less than 20,000 euros.
The portal also notes that ID.2 may appear in the future. It will compete with electric cars such as the Renault Zoe and Peugeot e-208.
In addition, official photos of the Volkswagen Tiguan X coupe-crossover have recently appeared on the Internet. The presentation of the new model should take place in the near future. It should be emphasized that already in the initial configuration, the car will acquire rich technical equipment.
