Volkswagen introduced the North American version of the new generation Passat sedan. The public premiere of the car was held at the Detroit Auto Show.
At the same time, the Volkswagen Passat for the US market cannot be called a completely new car – the sedan that debuted in Detroit is built on its predecessor platform. The Germans did not want to transfer the Passat to the modular platform MQB, as is the case with the European version of the model.
As for the exterior, the new Passat is similar to the Jetta of a new generation, which debuted in Detroit in early 2018. So, Volkswagen Passat received horizontal elements on a massive radiator grille, visually combined with modified standard LED headlamps.
Sedan manned modified four-cylinder gasoline engine, issuing the same 176 hp (torque increased from 250 N · m to 280 N · m). The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. In particular, the engineers used the new electronic control unit of the power unit and the upgraded torque converter. From the version with a 3.6-liter VR6 engine in the US market decided to give up.
The list of available equipment included a tracking system for “dead” zones, an automatic emergency braking function with pedestrian recognition, as well as adaptive crisis control and a vehicle holding system in the occupied lane.
As for the European version of the new Volkswagen Passat, it will debut in early February 2019. Release of cars will be adjusted in German Emden. So far, Volkswagen has only noted that in the restyled model they use innovative “auxiliary control systems and new solutions for lighting engineering.” In addition, upgraded multimedia with additional features will become available.
