Volkswagen introduced the new GolfOctober 24, 2019
Volkswagen introduced the eighth generation Golf. The car is built on an upgraded version of the MQB modular platform and is equipped with hybrid engines of the new family.
Externally, the new Golf is easiest to distinguish from the previous one in front optics. From now on, the most massive in the history of Volkswagen is equipped with only LED optics in one of three options. The base has eight diode elements and halogen turn signals. A step above is the version with 11 diodes. And the top-end IQ Light modification is adaptive matrix optics with 22 diodes, which can even turn off segments of the light beam so as not to blind oncoming drivers.
The new Golf has slightly increased in size. The car became 3 cm longer and 1.5 cm wider than its predecessor. At the same time, the height decreased by 3.5 cm. Now the overall length of the hatchback is 4824 mm, width – 1800 mm, and height – 1456 mm. The wheelbase remains the same – 2636 mm.
In Europe, the new Golf will be offered in as many as 13 modifications. The engine range includes a new family of 1.0- and 1.5-liter turbocharged TSI gasoline engines, as well as a new TDI 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine that will replace the current 1.6-liter units. All versions can be combined with both a manual gearbox and a DSG robot.
In addition to traditional diesel and gasoline engines of the TDI and TSI family, versions with a combined power plant will also be offered – a closed eHybrid hybrid and a rechargeable GTE modification.
In addition, in Europe, Golf will receive a new family of eTSI engines, which are the so-called soft hybrids with an additional 48-volt on-board network. In the Old World, a methane-based TGI modification will also be available.
In the cabin, the new hatchback has a minimum of buttons and mechanical switches. Most equipment can be controlled with a large touchscreen media system. In addition, the car received a digital dashboard, which is visually combined into a single unit with a display, as well as ambient lighting, which can change color.
In Europe, the hatchback will be offered in four fixed trim levels: Golf, Life, Style and R-Line. Moreover, the latter two have the same equipment and differ only in the external styling package.
