Volkswagen introduced e-Performance Golf R ConceptFebruary 1, 2020
The German automaker has shown the future of the R-Series electric models with a new concept
The presentation of the e-performance Golf R will take place ahead of the GP Ice Race in Zell am See, Austria. Representatives of the company did not talk about the new model, but emphasized that it would serve as the basis for future Volkswagen R.
Information on the technical characteristics of the model is not reported, but it is known that this car is equipped with all-wheel drive and an electric power plant. It is assumed that electric motors are installed on each axis of the car.
It seems that the concept is based on the Golf GTI TCR, since it has similar aerodynamic side skirts, a splitter and extended wings. In addition, ID.R, T-Roc R and two beetles were shown. One of them is the rally Salzburg 1302 S, and the other is the Beetle R, which won the US rally cross-country championship five times in a row. Cars will not only appear at the exhibition but also go on the road. The Beetle R will be driven by Hans-Joachim, Benjamin Leichter will drive the T-Roc R, and Jasmine Preisig will drive several other models.
Volkswagen Motorsport director Sven Smets said that an exciting combination of modern and vintage cars was found this year at the Zell am See auto show.
Reports that the Volkswagen R will become electric have appeared earlier. Sales and Marketing Director Jürgen Stackmann said: “If there is a future for R, it must be electric.”
