Volkswagen introduced a coupe-like version of the Atlas Cross SportNovember 21, 2019
The German automaker is updating its seven-seater SUV, which now has only 2 rows of seats.
The new modification, which goes on sale in North America next year, was presented earlier at an exhibition in New York. this is essentially a revised version of the existing Atlas. It is based on the same version of the MQB platform as the seven-seat version, and has an identical 2979 mm wheelbase, but 71 mm shorter due to its smaller overhangs. The coupe-shaped crossover is also 58 mm lower, thanks to the sloping roof line.
Atlas Cross Sport also received a new design designed to be “more emotional” than the usability-oriented Atlas, and, as Volkswagen says, “points the way to the future vision” of the company’s SUV style in America. The machine is equipped with a new rear bumper and “shod” in 21-inch wheels.
While the model only accommodates five people, it supports a second row of seats that slide to expand the trunk. The general view of the interior of the model has also been updated.
The Atlas Cross Sport will come with a four-cylinder V6 TSI rated at 272 hp. or 232 hp turbocharged. A couple of the unit will be an 8-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.
It is noted that Atlas became the key to the resurgence of Volkswagen in the USA after the dieselgate scandal, when the car was designed and developed exclusively for the North American market, where VW occupies a slightly broader market position than in Europe.
