Volkswagen ID Buzz will be the new generation of Touran
April 15, 2020Volkswagen predicts that its upcoming retro EV image will revive interest in MPV.
According to Volkswagen Welch, Frank Welch, ID Buzz “Microbus” is a new generation van, due to appear in 2022, indirectly replace the Touran and revitalize the MPV segment with its “emotional” design.
Although the Touran based on the Mk7 Golf is still on sale, and the larger Sharan will be released this year, the production of his sibling Seat Alhambra has just ceased. MPV ownership already peaked in the early 1990s, but has since declined significantly. According to experts, Touran will not survive over the next few years, as Volkswagen focuses on SUVs and huge investments in electric cars.
“Some people will say that the Touran is a boring car, but it has great efficiency, excellent value for money and is great for families. We have prepared for the next generation with the ID family, including the Buzz ID we are currently developing. These are the real successors to Touran. Buzz has a lot of space. It looks great. The production version is even better than the concept. This is the best of Touran, ”Welch said.
ID Buzz, often described as the 1950 Microbus spiritual successor, is based on the Volkswagen MEB architecture and is expected to have an electric range of 600km. Versions with rear and all-wheel drive will be offered, providing a power of 268 hp. and 369 hp respectively.
