Volkswagen ID.6 electric crossover spotted in testsSeptember 8, 2020
The German brand has begun testing its electric crossover, which is to receive the Volkswagen ID.6 designation. The novelty is built on a new platform, has a capacity of about 300 “horses” and can offer a good power reserve on a single charge.
The new spy shots give us a first look at the development of a production version of the previously unveiled Volkswagen ID Concept. Roomzz. When the large electric car goes on sale, expect the German brand to name it ID.6 to match the naming scheme for its upcoming EV family.
These photos were taken during the testing of a prototype of the novelty, which took place in the Austrian Alps.
The front of the body is well camouflaged. If you look closely, you can see that most of the front bumper, including the corner pieces, are actually decals that hide what the production car will have. It looks like the engineers also hide the headlights.
There is not much coverage in profile. The camouflage is predominantly in the back, where there is a camouflage above the C-pillar, which indicates that the window on the sides is larger than it appears. The engineers also cover the parts of the taillights that wrap around the side of the body.
There are decals on some of the taillights, so expect the bulbs to look a little different. Like the rest of the ID family, the new ID.6 uses VW’s modular MEB platform for electric vehicles. The previously mentioned Roomzz concept had 302 horsepower. It had an 82 kilowatt-hour battery that provided an estimated range of 450 kilometers in the WLTP test.
FAW-VW’s Foshan plant in China has already built at least two ID.6 prototypes. It is reported that mass production of the electric crossover will begin in 2021.
Not so long ago, we wrote that VW showed the interior of the ID.4 electric car with “smart” lighting.
Volkswagen Corp. on Friday, September 4, showed the salon of its own debut electric crossover ID.4, which will debut before the end of September.
