Volkswagen Golf named Europe’s best-selling car in 2020January 13, 2021
Volkswagen Golf turned out to be the best-selling on the European market.
The German company said its Golf compact was the best-selling model on the European market last year. So, in total, about 312,000 units were sold.
In addition, the model also became the best-selling model in Germany in 2020, with about 133,900 vehicles sold in total.
According to the automaker, it is known that the number of orders for the Golf has increased significantly, as the model range has been replenished with eight trim levels. The availability of all significant Golf derivative models, including the GTI, GTD and GTE, is known to have boosted sales in the third quarter.
The strong demand for plug-in hybrid cars has also contributed to the Golf’s success. By the end of last year, every third Golf was a hybrid.
“Last year, Golf will also be where it should be,” the company’s CEO said.
Note that the Golf GTI of the eighth generation is equipped with a 4-cylinder 2.0 TSI unit with a capacity of 245 hp. This engine is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission as well as a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission.
