Volkswagen electric buggy uncovered on a Christmas cardDecember 21, 2018
The Volkswagen Christmas card showed an image of an electric buggy that could become part of the I.D. ecological line. The inspiration for the model will serve Meyers Manx from the 60s and, probably, the concept of Volkswagen buggy up! 2011
At the beginning of December, it was reported that the concern’s management was considering the possibility of launching an electric buggy into mass production and analyzing the model’s prospects on the market. According to preliminary data, the car will be built on the MEB platform, and technically it will repeat the I.D. Externally, the buggy will resemble the original Meyers Manx rear-wheel drive: big wheels, low set body, safety cage.
The Meyers Manx buggy was manufactured by B. F. Meyers & Co. from 1964 to 1971. In 2000, the production of cars resumed, the company Meyers Manx released a limited edition classic buggies, and in 2002 introduced the version Manxter 2 + 2 and Manxter DualSport on a full-size platform Beetle. In 2009, an updated version of the classic car called Kick-Out Manx.
In 2011, in Frankfurt, Volkswagen showed the concept buggy up !. The show car was built on a subcompact hatchback platform up !, installed 18-inch wheels on it, and the passenger compartment panels and controls protected it from moisture and sand.
