Volkswagen Beetle may return with an electric motorJuly 30, 2020
The iconic car was discontinued last year. However, the revival of the electric-powered model looks interesting.
Volkswagen has applied to register a new trademark with the name “e-Beetle”. Immediately after the appeal to the EU Intellectual Property Bureau, rumors appeared about the revival of the legendary “Beetle”, but with an electric motor. On the one hand, this looks odd, since Volkswagen electric models will be produced under the new ID brand and even the electric Golf will soon be a thing of the past.
On the other hand, the appearance of the electric Volkswagen Beetle does not look fantastic. First, there are no Beetle-like cars in the ID line. Secondly, over the years, the model has a lot of loyal fans who will be delighted with the appearance of a new technological version. Recall that they officially said goodbye to the Volkswagen Beetle a year ago, when the last sample of a model with an 80-year history came off the assembly line of the plant.
According to AutoCar, the new Volkswagen e-Beetle may receive the MEB platform, which was developed specifically for electric cars.
In this case, the assembly can be done by the Volkswagen Group Components enterprise, which develops and produces batteries for electric cars.
In the meantime, Volkswagen has paid nearly $ 10 billion to the victims of dieselgate. In the period from 2007 to 2015, the concern produced cars with diesel engines, on which the data on the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere were distorted. Most of the clients opted for monetary compensation.
